Zarif Reminds Trump of Netanyahu Role in ‘Afghanistan Quagmire’

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif reminded US President Donald Trump of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s “instrumental” role in pushing the US into the “Afghanistan quagmire”.

Did you know, @realdonaldtrump, that Netanyahu was also instrumental in pushing the US into the Afghanistan quagmire? The same one that you now cannot get out of? His motto since 1986: Fight to the last American soldier,” Zarif tweeted

The US attacked Afghanistan in 2001 with the declared aim of ending the rule of the Taliban in the country. Today, however, the militant group remains in control of large parts of the country and is stepping up its attacks on foreign and Afghan security forces by day.

The United States’ invasion of Afghanistan was part of its so-called war on terror, launched in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.

Ending America’s wars overseas has been Trump’s promise since his 2016 campaigning days.
