MPs to Visit Tehran Reactor Saturday

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The chairman of the Nuclear Committee of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission said a delegation from the committee would visit the Tehran Research Reactor facility on Saturday.

Mohammad Ebrahim Rezaei told Tasnim that members of the delegation would also tour the facility’s radioisotope production unit.

It is part of the committee’s periodic visits to the country’s nuclear sites, he noted, adding that a visit to the Arak nuclear site is also on the agenda in the near future.

Rezaei said the committee will then draft a report to present at the Parliament.

On Tuesday, a delegation from the committee went to the Natanz and Fordo nuclear sites.

As for Iran’s measures to scale back its nuclear commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Rezaei said the commission is monitoring the measures of the relevant organizations and will report the process to the parliament.

Earlier this month, the Islamic Republic took the third step in reducing its obligations under the JCPOA.

Iran maintains that the new measures are not designed to harm the 2015 nuclear accord, but to save it by creating a balance in the commitments.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, US, Britain, France, and Germany) on July 14, 2015, reached a conclusion over the text of the JCPOA.

The accord took effect in January 2016 and was supposed to terminate all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran all at once, but its implementation was hampered by the US policies and its eventual withdrawal from the deal.

On May 8, 2018, US President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the nuclear accord.

Following the US withdrawal, Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the deal.

However, the EU’s failure to ensure Iran’s economic interests forced Tehran to stop honoring certain commitments, including an unlimited rise in the stockpile of enriched uranium.
