Rouhani Congratulates Iranians on Asian Volleyball Championship Title

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani offered his congratulations to the country’s people over the national volleyball team’s winning the title in 2019 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship.

“The powerful championship of our country’s national volleyball team in the Asian Men's Volleyball Championship for the third time brought a wave of pride and cheerfulness to our dear people and added another golden page to their athletic glories,” Rouhani said in a message on Saturday night.

“I would like to congratulate the great Iranian nation over this valuable victory, which has added to hopes for qualifying for the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games (2020),” he said.

“I would also like to appreciate the coaching staff and hard-working athletes, and everyone involved for their efforts,” the president added.

Iran swept aside Australia 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-21) in the 2019 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship final on Saturday.

In the match, held at the 12,000-seater Azadi Sports Complex in Tehran, Igor Kolakovic’s men showed their reign in Asia for the third time.

It was sweet revenge for Team Melli who had lost to Australia 3-1 in the preliminary round.

Japan defeated South Korea 3-1 (25-23,25-17, 23-25, 25-22) in the bronze medal match.
