President: Anti-Iran Allegations Refuted at UNGA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says his presence at the UN General Assembly and the meetings with world leaders helped break the atmosphere of anti-Iranian accusations and refuted the allegation that Tehran has been involved in recent attacks on Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Tehran on Friday after attending the 74th annual session of the UN General Assembly meeting, President Rouhani said his speech to the assembly and his meetings with the world leaders helped counter a smear campaign that sought to accuse Iran of launching attacks on Saudi Aramco’s oil installations.

The president said he has challenged the assertions of Europeans who have blamed Tehran for the Yemeni drone attacks on Saudi targets, saying the European leaders have failed to provide any evidence for their anti-Iran claims.

The European leaders have been warned that making unfounded accusations would result in chaos and fan the flames of regional conflicts, Rouhani added, saying he has called on the accusers to send their evidence, if any, to Tehran.

The Iranian president also noted that all of the 15 world leaders with whom he held meetings on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York have condemned the US withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the US sanctions on Iran.

On September 14, the Yemeni forces launched drone attacks on two plants at the heart of Saudi Arabia's oil industry, including the world's biggest petroleum processing facility.

The US has accused Iran of involvement in the attack, alleging that a number of cruise missiles have been fired from Iran at the Saudi targets. Iran vehemently denies the claim.
