“Iran and Pakistan have good capacities to expand cooperation,” Rouhani said at the meeting with Alvi in the Azeri Capital of Baku on Friday on the sidelines of the 18th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit.

“Iran has prioritized the development of cooperation with countries in the region, including Pakistan, particularly in the economic and trade fields,” he added.

Rouhani further hailed bilateral relations between Iran and Pakistan as “growing” and said the two countries’ high-ranking officials are determined to develop the ties in all areas.

The Pakistani President, for his part described Tehran-Islamabad relations as age-old and strong and said given the extensive capacities of the two countries, the bilateral trade should increase more than before.

Heading a high-ranking delegation, Rouhani arrived in Baku to address the 18th NAM Summit, which kicked off on Friday in the Azeri capital, and explain the Islamic Republic’s positions on important regional and international issues.

The preparatory senior officials meeting of the NAM summit was held on October 21-22 and the two-day preparatory ministerial meeting was held on Wednesday and Thursday.

Host Azerbaijan was planned to take over the chairmanship of the NAM for the next three years at the Baku Summit.
