Yemeni Forces Shoot Down Saudi Reconnaissance Drone in Hajjah

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Yemeni army and Popular Committees successfully targeted an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) belonging to the Saudi-led military coalition that was flying in the skies over the Hiran district of Hajjah province Saturday evening.

The Ansarullah forces announced on Saturday that they have shot down an unmanned drone over northern Yemen just a day after announcing the shoot down of another Saudi aircraft the day before, Yemen’s army spokesman, Brigadier General Yahya Saree said on Saturday.

“Yemeni air defenses were able to shoot down a Chinese-made Wing Loong fighter reconnaissance aircraft in the Hiran district of Hajjah province this evening during hostilities”, Saree said in a post on Twitter.

The General added that the operation was caught on tape and that the footage will be published shortly.

A day earlier, the media wing of the Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement released a video showing Yemeni troops intercept an Apache helicopter belonging to Saudi-led coalition near its southern border on Friday, resulting in deaths of two pilots on-board.

There was no immediate confirmation from a Saudi-led coalition that has been waging aggression against the impoverished Arab country for more than four years.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

An estimated two million children in Yemen are currently suffering from acute malnutrition, including 360,000 under five years old, according to recent UNICEF reports.
