TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Syria Geir O. Pedersen talked about the latest developments in Syria.

Politics

In a meeting held in Tehran on Saturday the Iranian foreign minister reiterated that a political solution would be the only way out of the crisis in Syria.

He also reaffirmed that Iran is fully prepared for any form of cooperation to resolve the conflicts in Syria which can be achieved by respecting the Arab country’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity.

For his part, the visiting UN diplomat shared his views with the Iranian foreign minister about the political processes in Syria and other issues of mutual interest.

Since the outbreak of war and foreign militancy in Syria in 2011, Iran has stood by the Syrian government and supported its people against terrorist groups, including Daesh (ISIL).

The foreign-backed militancy in Syria has killed hundreds of thousands of people and displaced millions since it began in 2011.
