Commander: Iran’s Military Strategy Based on Deterrence

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian Army commander said the Islamic Republic’s military strategy has been founded on deterrence in such a way that the enemies would not dare to approach the Iranian borders.

Speaking at an award ceremony for Army cadets on Saturday, Deputy Chief of Iran’s Army for Coordination Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said the Islamic Republic’s military strategy is based upon defense and deterrence.

“Deterrence means we should get so strong that the enemy would not dare to close in on us, and we could strongly take part in international negotiations,” he added.

“We must become so powerful that no country would even think of approaching our borders,” the commander stated.

Sayyari also emphasized that Iran’s military power poses no threat to any country and is meant only to ensure security.

“Over the past forty years and under all the pressures, we have manufactured advanced equipment and will never give up,” the general added.

Last week, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei stressed the need to build up Iran’s military power to prevent a war and counter threats.

Ayatollah Khamenei reiterated that Iran would not threaten any country or nation, but seeks to protect its security and prevent threats.

Being weak will encourage the enemy to take action against Iran, the Leader warned, adding, “In order for a war not to break out and for threats to finish, one must get strong.”
