Iran’s Zarif Calls on EU to Preserve JCPOA through ‘Action’

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – In separate meetings with his Dutch and Austrian counterparts in Tehran, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif urged the European Union to take concrete measures and save the 2015 nuclear deal through “action”.

Iran’s Zarif Calls on EU to Preserve JCPOA through ‘Action’

“Over the last 2 days in Tehran, good meetings with Dutch FM @ministerBlok and Austrian FM #Schallenberg. Emphasized importance of preserving the #JCPOA through action—living up to commitments made—on the part of the #EU,” Zarif tweeted early on Monday.

In May 2018, US President Donald Trump pulled his country out of the JCPOA.

Iran and the remaining parties launched talks to save the accord after the US withdrawal, but the three EU parties to the deal have failed to ensure Iran’s economic interests.

The EU’s inaction forced Tehran to stop honoring certain commitments to the nuclear deal.

Iran maintains that the new measures are not designed to harm the JCPOA but to save the accord by creating a balance in the commitments.
