Iran FM Censures Trump’s Remarks about Fighting Daesh

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif denounced recent remarks by US President Donald Trump about US’ purported counterterrorism efforts, stressing that Lt. General Qassem Soleimani, who was assassinated by Washington, was the Daesh terror group’s “number one enemy”.

“@realdonaldtrump just admitted what we all knew: US troops in Syria to ‘have the oil’. Also, that Russia, Syria, & Iran can fight ISIS, confessing, ‘Iran hates ISIS’. But not only did US NOT fight ISIS, it cowardly murdered its #1 enemy—with ONLY Trump cronies & ISIS celebrating,” Zarif tweeted early on Wednesday.

In his post, he also incorporated a video clip that showed Trump making a confession about the US troops withdrawal after they “have taken the oil” in Syria.

On January 3, a drone strike, conducted by direct order of Trump, martyred Lt. Gen.  Soleimani, the former commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), along with Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy head of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), known as Hashed al-Sha’abi in Arabic, and their companions outside Baghdad International Airport.
