Speaker Voices Iran’s Readiness for Parliamentary Cooperation with Neighbors

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – In separate congratulatory messages to his counterparts in ten regional countries on the occasion of Nowruz, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani expressed Tehran’s readiness for the expansion of parliamentary cooperation with the neighbors.

In a message at the beginning of the Persian new year, Larijani congratulated his counterparts in the Republic of Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Turkey, and Uzbekistan on the ancient and globally renowned event of Nowruz.

Expressing best wishes for those nations, Larijani underlined that the Iranian legislature “welcomes any parliamentary cooperation, particularly with the neighbors, on the basis of mutual respect and with the purpose of creating security, progress, welfare and inclusive economic, political and cultural development.”

He also expressed the hope that the new year would mark growing progress and justice for all nations.

In 2010, the UN General Assembly established March 21 as the International Day of Nowruz. The UN also celebrates the International Day of Happiness.

The international Nowruz Day was proclaimed at the initiative of several countries that share this holiday, including Iran, Afghanistan, Albania, Azerbaijan, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Turkmenistan.
