Land Day A Milestone in Palestinians’ Resistance against Zionist Regime: Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the occasion of the Land Day of Palestine, saying that the day is an important “milestone” in the process of Palestinians’ fight and resistance against the Zionist regime of Israel.

The Palestinian Land Day is an annual event to mark the killing of six Palestinians by Israeli forces during mass protests against Israel’s seizure of their land in 1976.

In late March 1976, Israeli troops killed six Palestinians, wounded 100 others and detained hundreds more who had held peaceful demonstrations against Israel’s confiscation of 21,000 dunams (5,189 acres) of their land. Palestinians, both at home and overseas, have been marking the event known as the Land Day with rallies and remembrance ever since.

Here is the full text of the statement released by Iran’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday:

March 30 marks the anniversary of Land Day in Palestine. In the history and culture of the Palestinian people’s struggle, Land Day is reminiscent of the protests and voices of the Palestinian people living under occupation against the Zionist occupiers who, after the occupation of the Palestinian territories, have usurped and confiscated the lands of the main inhabitants of the Palestinian territories and replaced them with migrant Zionists. The day is a milestone in the process of the Palestinian people’s struggle and resistance against the Zionist regime’s occupation policy, and, accordingly, Land Day is still an indispensable part of the oppressed Palestinian people’s political life and struggle that has been shaped and has continued in protest at the violence, racial prejudice, seizure of lands, destruction of villages and displacement of Palestinians.

The Islamic Republic of Iran honors the memory of the Palestinian people’s struggle, commemorates the patient resistance shown by the people of that territory, condemns the criminal measures from the Zionist regime and the biased plan proposed by the US which runs counter to the international principles and law -known as the Deal of the Century- and announces that establishment of sustainable and fair peace in the region will be possible only through the continuation of resistance until the complete elimination of occupation of Palestine, the return of all displaced people to their own land, the determination of Palestine’s future establishment on the basis of a referendum with the participation of all of its main inhabitants, and ultimately the formation of an integrated Palestinian government with Bait al-Muqaddas as its capital.

Considering the outbreak of coronavirus in Palestine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran stresses the need for the immediate release of the Palestinian inmates imprisoned by Israel, for an end to the blockade on Gaza, and for the delivery of humanitarian and medical aid to the people under occupation in Palestine, and calls on the international organizations and circles to fulfill their humanitarian and legal duty to help the Palestinian people and prevent a continuation of the Quds-occupying regime’s crimes and racists policies in occupied Palestine.
