US Exit to End Life of Daesh in Iraq: PMU Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A commander of Iraq’s Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) said the withdrawal of American forces from the country would lead to extinction of the remnants of Daesh (ISIL of ISIS) terrorist group in Iraq.

The life of the remaining cells of Daesh terrorists in Iraq will end as soon as the last American troop gets out of the country, Ali al-Husseini said in an interview with Baghdad Today.

He also warned that the presence of US forces in Iraq will lengthen the life of terrorist groups, because Washington is their biggest sponsor.

Husseini underlined that the full withdrawal of American forces from Iraq has become a public demand in his country, particularly after the US forces committed heinous crimes against the Hashd al-Shaabi commanders and forces.

He also warned that after pulling out of Iraq, the US may be seeking to repeat the same plot it had carried out in 2014 and provoke the Daesh cells to launch sporadic attacks and disrupt public security in Iraq.

In early January, Iraq’s parliament passed a resolution telling the government to end the presence of foreign troops in Iraq and ensure they not use its land, air, and waters for any reason.

The move came after the assassination of IRGC Quds Force Commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani, the deputy head of Hashd al-Shaabi Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and a number of others in a US airstrike in Baghdad.

They were killed in the strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of January 3.
