Poll: Fear over Coronavirus Spikes among Americans

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Nearly a third of Americans now fear the coronavirus threatens them personally, according to a new poll.

The USA Today/Ipsos poll released Monday found that 29 percent of Americans now believe that COVID-19 poses a "high threat" to them personally, up from 15 percent in the same poll a month ago.

When it comes to the US economy, Americans are also less optimistic than they were one month ago. More than two-thirds of poll respondents said the virus poses a "high threat" to the US, and 68 percent said it poses a "high threat" to Wall Street, specifically. Those values are up respectively from 34 percentage points and 47 percentage points in March's poll, The Hill reported.

Last month's poll was conducted between March 10-11, just days before US President Donald Trump declared a national emergency over the coronavirus outbreak. In recent weeks, the number of cases in the US has surpassed official counts from all other countries around the world.

The latest USA Today/Ipsos poll was taken between April 9-10 and surveyed 1,005 respondents. The margin of error is 3.5 percentage points.
