UN Chief Guterres Lauds Iran’s Support for Yemen Truce

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres hailed Iran’s efforts for establishment of a ceasefire in Yemen.

The UN secretary-general held the third telephone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif over the past two weeks on Sunday.

In the conversation, Guterres welcomed the Islamic Republic of Iran’s efforts to ensure a ceasefire in Yemen and launch political talks over the Yemeni crisis.

The UN chief and Zarif also emphasized the need for reopening and ensuring the security of borders and ports in Yemen to deliver humanitarian aids to people, particularly at the time of outbreak of the coronavirus.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has welcomed the UN secretary-general’s call for a global halt in armed clashes amid the coronavirus outbreak, saying Tehran supports any initiative ending the war against people of Yemen and the blockade of the impoverished country.
