Protesters Do Push-Ups to Demand Reopening of Gyms in Florida (+Video)
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Protesters rallied in front of a local courthouse in Clearwater, Florida, on Monday, to call for the reopening of gyms in the state amid the coronavirus pandemic.
A video by WFLA News Channel 8 showed the demonstrators, who were not wearing any kind of face masks or keeping a safe distance from each other, performed push-ups and squats on the sidewalk.
They were also waving US flags and cheering at cars driving by, as they demanded gyms to be able to get back to business.
According to reports, gyms were ordered to shut down last month after Governor Ron DeSantis issued a statewide safer-at-home order to prevent further spread of coronavirus, although some business such as hair salons and barber shops have been authorised to operate since Monday.
Since the outbreak began, there have been over 1,367,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the US, leading to over 82,000 deaths of people with the virus thus far, according to data compiled by John Hopkins University.
