Ex-Persepolis Forward Stokes Faces Court Rap

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Former Persepolis striker Anthony Stokes is facing a court rap over a vehicle allegedly being driven without an annual test of vehicle safety.

The legislation states it is an offence for anyone to drive, or allow to be driven, a vehicle which does not have a valid test certificate.

It is not clear when the alleged incident took place or if Stokes was behind the wheel, but court papers reveal the case dates from this year.

He is due to appear at Glasgow’s Justice of the Peace Court on Tuesday.

His lawyer said: “He is adamant he hasn’t breached the terms of the order.”

The former Celtic forward signed a six-month contract with the Iranian team during the winter transfer window but refused to return to Tehran after the match against Sharjah in the AFC Champions League.

Later, Stokes announced that he couldn’t come to Iran because of the coronavirus.
