Bushfires in SW Iran Extinguished (+Video)


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Summer heat caused massive fire that broke through trees and green areas in Khaeez protected forest in southwest Iran since Thursday, before it was extinguished on Tuesday.

The 33-hectare Khaeez forest, which lies across the provinces of Khuzestan and Kohgiloyeh and Boyerahmad, was granted protected status in 1998 because of its unique flora and fauna, which includes wild goats, leopards, and caracals (Persian lynxes).

Several videos on social media show that the fire burning in parts of the Khaeez protected area before it was contained by the local people and fire department in the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province.

More videos were also posted online showing a fire break through Chitgar forest park situated in western Tehran. The spokesperson for Tehran Fire Department said Tuesday that the fire was quickly contained and extinguished by firefighters.
