Coronavirus in Iran: Over 900 New Cases Admitted to Hospital


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Of more than 2,000 new coronavirus cases detected in Iran over the past 24 hours, over 900 patients have been admitted to the hospital, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman announced.

Speaking at her first press conference on Tuesday, Sima Sadatlari said the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 infection in Iran has risen to 175,927 following the detection of 2,095 new cases since Monday noon.

Of the new cases detected since yesterday, 901 patients have been admitted to the hospital, she added.

At least 138,457 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far and have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman added.

She further put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 8,425, saying the disease has taken the lives of 74 patients over the past 24 hours.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 2,639 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Sadatlari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 1,128,600 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 7,210,000 and the death toll has exceeded 409,000.
