Protests Reveal US Insincerity Regarding Human Rights: Iranian Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani said the wave of popular protests in the US has revealed the Washington government’s true face.

“The Americans have for years lectured other countries on human rights … and now it has been revealed for the whole world  that (the issue of) human rights for the US is nothing but a means (to achieve its objectives),” Ayatollah Amoli Larijani said at a session of the Expediency Council in Tehran on Wednesday.

He added that the US government’s mask has now fallen off and everyone, including the American people, has realized what criminals the US rulers are.

The senior cleric predicted that what happened to the former Soviet Union awaits the US due to the oppression and the crimes that Washington commits against innocent people.

The death last month of African-American man George Floyd at the hands of a white US police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota, has unleashed protests against police brutality and mistreatment of African Americans and ignited demonstrations for racial justice in the US.
