Speaking at a daily press conference, Sima Sadat Lari said at least 156,991 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far and have been discharged from hospitals across the country.

She also put the total number of people tested positive for the coronavirus in Iran at 197,647 after detection of 2,596 new cases since Tuesday.

The coronavirus has taken the lives of 87 patients during the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 9,272, the spokeswoman noted.

Of the new cases detected since yesterday, 930 patients have been admitted to the hospital, she added.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 2,795 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari said.

The spokeswoman also said more than 1,344,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has exceeded 8,417,000, and the death toll has surpassed 451,000.
