US Political Blow to JCPOA Would Draw Iran’s Decisive Reaction, President Warns

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani warned on Wednesday that the Islamic Republic would take a decisive action should the US government attempt to deal a political blow to the 2015 nuclear deal.

Addressing a cabinet session in Tehran, Rouhani said the US has so far dealt economic blows to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

If the US seeks to harm the nuclear agreement politically, Iran will not tolerate it and will take a decisive action, the president cautioned.

He also described the full support that 14 members of the UN Security Council voiced for the JCPOA and for the UNSC Resolution 2231 at a Tuesday meeting of the council as a “display of another political defeat for the US” vis- -vis Iran.

Rouhani also reiterated that Iran will immediately begin to honor its JCPOA commitments in full as soon as the other parties fulfill their JCPOA commitments.

He also highlighted Iran’s policy of constructive interaction with the region and the world, saying Iran has established close ties with Russia and China in a way that the three nations are standing together over all regional and international issues.

Rouhani pointed to an upcoming videoconference with his Russian and Turkish counterparts as an example of the Iranian administration’s policy of constructive interaction.

The presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey are going to hold an online summit of the Astana Peace Process on Wednesday.
