Iranian President Urges Enhanced Ties with Belarus

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President of Iran Hassan Rouhani congratulated Belarus on the anniversary of the Eastern European country’s Independence Day, calling for the promotion of ties between Tehran and Minsk.

In a Saturday message to his Belarusian counterpart Aleksandr Grigoryevich Lukashenko, Rouhani congratulated the European country’s Independence Day.

He also expressed hope for the expansion of relations between Iran and Belarus in all fields considering the serious resolve of their ranking officials and by using the maximum opportunities available.

Rouhani wished health and success for Lukashenko and prosperity and happiness for the people of Belarus.

Independence Day is a public holiday in the Republic of Belarus celebrated on July 3. It commemorates the liberation of Minsk from Nazi occupation during the Second World War.

Iran and Belarus have in recent years developed good relations, particularly in the economic and trade sectors, and signed a number of agreements to shore up bilateral cooperation.

In a meeting with speaker of Belarus’ Council in August 2017, Rouhani said the first step to broaden economic relations is to establish proper banking ties.
