The flight recorders of the Ukrainian passenger plane shot down by mistake near Tehran in January were taken from Tehran to Paris on Friday for analysis.

The Civil Aviation Organization of Iran announced on Tuesday that the data from the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) and the flight data recorder (FDR) in the black boxes have been retrieved.

An Iranian official in charge of aviation accident analysis has received the flight recorders’ information.

According to the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran, the preliminary analysis of data would begin today at France’s BEA laboratory.

The Kiev-bound UIA Boeing 737 crashed shortly after taking off from Tehran on January 8, killing all 176 people on board, mostly Iranian and Canadian citizens.

Iran said the plane was hit by an anti-aircraft missile due to human error.
