Iranian, Indian Defense Ministers Meet in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh held a meeting with his Iranian counterpart in a visit to Tehran.

The Indian defense minister visited Tehran on his way to a trip to Moscow.

Singh held the meeting with Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami on Sunday morning to hold talks on the regional, bilateral and international issues.

It was the first visit to Iran by a ranking Indian official after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

In April 2017, Iran’s then defense minister, Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan, highlighted the far-reaching impacts of military and defense cooperation with India on regional security, stressing that Tehran and New Delhi could work together at a strategic level.

In 2018, India’s Navy Commander Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba visited Tehran to voice his country’s readiness for programs to boost naval cooperation with Iran, such as the exchange of military delegations.
