Coronavirus Death Toll in Iran Exceeds 24,000


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The total death toll from COVID-19 in Iran surpassed 24,000 on Saturday, the Health Ministry spokeswoman said, noting also that more than 357,000 positive cases have recovered from the disease.

Speaking at a daily press conference on Saturday, Sima Sadat Lari said the coronavirus has taken the lives of 166 patients during the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 24,118.

The number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has risen to 419,043 after the detection of 2,845 new cases since yesterday, she added.

Of the new cases detected over the past 24 hours, 1,149 patients have been admitted to the hospital, the spokeswoman said.

At least 357,632 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, she said.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,893 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 3,719,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has exceeded 30.7 million and the death toll has surpassed 957,000.
