Persepolis Needs Three Points: Yahya Golmohammadi

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Persepolis football team head coach Yahya Golmohammadi says that they need to win the match against Sharjah to qualify for the AFC Champions League knockout stage.

The Reds are scheduled to meet the Emirati team in Group C on Thursday.

“We all know it will be a difficult match and possibly one of the most important in our season,” said Persepolis head coach Golmohammadi.

“There is no doubt that our players should be attacking, because we need the three points. So it is important that all players are involved in creating chances and at the same time it’s important that we focus on the defensive side,” he added.

“The opponent is a team that takes opportunities very well so if we do not have the required level of concentration, we cannot win. The players are ready, and they will do their best and hopefully we can get the three points we need,” Golmohammadi concluded.

Persepolis has reached the knockout stages three times in the past five editions of the competition, with its best result a runner-up finish in 2018.

Sharjah, meanwhile, reached the quarter-finals in its only previous AFC Champions League appearance.
