Iran Warns of Reaction after Karabakh War Shells Hit Border Region

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman warned the warring parties in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict that Tehran will not remain indifferent if the shells fired in the fighting continue to hit Iranian territories.

In a statement on Thursday, Saeed Khatibzadeh said it is not at all acceptable at all that several rockets fired during the Nagorno-Karabakh war have struck Iran's border areas.

"Unfortunately, worrying reports have been received today in this regard, and that is not at all acceptable,” he said.

The spokesman also dismissed the rumors that Iran's border guards have reciprocated, but stressed that "maintaining the security and peace of the Iranian citizens living in the border areas is the red line of Iranian armed forces."

He finally vowed that Iran would not remain indifferent in case of a repeat of such attacks, according to the Foreign Ministry’s website.

According to reports, several missiles fired during the Nagorno-Karabakh war have hit a district in Iran’s northwestern province of East Azarbaijan in recent days.

IRNA quoted a local governor as saying that ten missiles landed in two villages in Khoda-Afarin district, injuring a civilian.
