TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The start of the Iran Professional League (IPL) was postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Iran’s Football League Organization has announced that the league was postponed for six days in compliance with order of the Sports Medicine Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (SMFIRI).

The 2020-21 IPL was originally scheduled to start on October 31 but will begin on November 6.

The total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has risen to 539,670 following the detection of 5,039 new cases since Monday, the Health Ministry’s spokesperson said Tuesday.

Sima Sadat Lari put the total death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 31,034.
