Iran Sets Up Radiation Defense Bases

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran has established radiation defense bases in provinces hosting nuclear facilities, head of the Civil Defense Organization said.

In remarks at a videoconference on Monday, Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali said the radiation defense bases have been set up in five provinces of the country with nuclear sites and facilities.

The bases have been established as part of a mechanism for dealing with the threats of possible radiation leaking from nuclear sites, he added.

The commander also noted that the Civil Defense Organization has formulated a strategy known as the urban defense document to protect the cities and offer a modern model for urban development in accordance with the security and defense regulations.

In October 2018, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei highlighted the important role of the Civil Defense Organization in countering enemies’ threats and urged all military and non-military sectors to closely cooperate with the organization.

“In the face of enemies’ complicated offensive methods, the Civil Defense (Organization) should remain vigilant and serious and, through scientific, precise, up to date, and inclusive (efforts), counter any infiltration,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.
