No Breathing Space for Enemy Near Iranian Border, Commander Warns

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Commander of Iran’s Army Ground Force warned the enemies that they would be given no breathing space near the country’s borders.

“The enemy must know that we will give (it) no breathing room near Iran’s borders,” Brigadier General Kiomars Heidari told reporters after a visit to the northwestern regions near the common border with the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia, which have started a new round of fighting over the Nagorno-Karabakh region sine a month ago.

The commander also assured that the country’s borders were not under any threat, declaring, “The people of Iran enjoy complete security thanks to the alertness of the Armed Forces.”

“We have a duty towards monitoring borders and updating our capabilities,” he added, Press TV reported.

The Army was invariably and completely ready to defend the areas that run along the Islamic Republic’s borders, and its servicemen would sacrifice life and limb to ensure border security, General Heidari underscored.

Last week, the IRGC Ground Force deployed a mechanized brigade to protect the country’s northwestern border amid ongoing firefight between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.

The location of the deployment was identified as the areas running alongside the border in the Khoda Afarin and Jolfa counties.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has already warned the warring parties in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict that Tehran will not remain indifferent if the shells fired in the fighting continue to hit Iranian territories.

Tens of mortar shells fired by the warring sides in the latest round of fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan have hit border rural areas of Iran in recent weeks.
