Esteghlal Starts New IPL Season with Win
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Esteghlal beat Mes Rafsanjan 2-0 in the opening match of the 2020/21 Iran Professional League (IPL) on Saturday.
Vouria Ghafouri was on target in the 58th minute and Amir Arsalan Motahari found the back of the net in the 66th minute in the match held at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium behind closed doors.
In Mashhad, Shahr Khodro earned a big 3-0 win against Machine Sazi. Amin Ghaseminejad scored twice (12th and 16th minutes) and Hassan Jafari scored an injury time goal.
Gol Gohar, headed by former Sepahan coach Amir Ghalenoei, defeated Sepahan 3-1 in its home match.
Mohammad Reza Hosseini scored for Sepahan just 13 minutes into the match but Saeid Sadeghi levelled the score in the 30th minute. Godwin Mensha and Younes Shakeri scored twice for the Sirjan-based football team in the 55th and 58th minute respectively.
