Three Iranians Shortlisted for AFC International Player of the Week

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Mehdi Taremi, Ali Gholizadeh and Kaveh Rezaei have been nominated for the AFC International Player of the Week.

Taremi scored his first goal in Primeira Liga against Portimonense. Gholizadeh and Rezaei also have a good partnership at Charleroi.

Mehdi Taremi (FC Porto, Iran)
The scorer of 18 Primeira Liga goals last season, Mehdi Taremi hasn’t had it all his way since joining Portuguese giants Porto in August, but he enjoyed one of his happiest moments yet in the famous blue and white stripes on Sunday.

With their match against Portimonense locked a 1-1 at half-time, the Islamic Republic of Iran forward powered home a thumping header to register his first league goal for his new club, capping an impressive overall performance, and helping his club to an important win.

Ali Gholizadeh (Charleroi, Iran)
Team Melli’s Ali Gholizadeh continued his excellent season in the Belgian top-flight, scoring his second goal in as many matches for high-flying Charleroi.

Making the most of a misplaced pass from his opponents, Gholizadeh showed composure and class to score his third goal of the campaign, although Charleroi’s failure to win the match saw them slip to second on the league table.

Kaveh Rezaei (Charleroi, Iran)
Gholizadeh’s success with Charleroi has gone hand-in-hand with his partnership with Iranian teammate Kaveh Rezaei, who rekindled his sparkling early season form by scoring in the same match.

After a five-match goalless streak, Rezaei scored with a terrific headed goal to take his tally to an impressive six in 10 league matches in the 2020-21 campaign, bringing him a step closer to the 50-goal milestone in the top division of Belgian football.
