Iran Raising Oil Extraction from Joint Field, Minister Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh said the country’s extraction of crude from the Azadegan joint oilfield has increased, reaching 400,000 barrels per day.

In remarks on Thursday, Zanganeh said the daily output in Azadegan joint oilfield in southwestern Iran has reached 400,000 bpd this year.

The figure stood at only 70,000 bpd in the previous years, the oil minister said in an online event during which President Hassan Rouhani inaugurated a number of energy projects in the southwestern province of Khuzestan.

Extraction of oil from the joint oilfields is important as it preserves the Iranian nation's rights, IRNA quoted Zanganeh as saying.

In August, President Rouhani said his administration has managed to increase the oil and gas production from joint fields by six and 2.5 times respectively.

The oil output at the joint oilfields has increased from 70,000 to 400,000 barrels per day, he stated, adding that the daily gas production has also reached one billion cubic meters.

“This administration has done great jobs in the oil and gas industries and in the joint fields,” he said, adding that all but one of the phases in the South Pars gas field have come on stream and Iran has become self-sufficient in producing gasoline and diesel.

The Azadegan oil and gas field, whose development has been divided into 28 phases, is located in the Persian Gulf straddling the maritime border between Iran and Qatar.

It covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, of which 3,700 square kilometers belongs to Iran.

It is estimated that the Iranian section of the field contains 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of condensates in place.
