Nobody Can Talk About Iran’s Beloved Azerbaijan, Zarif Says

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – In reaction to the lines that president of Turkey has recited during a visit to Baku, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined that no one is allowed to talk about beloved Azerbaijan of Iran.

“Pres. Erdogan was not informed that what he ill-recited in Baku refers to the forcible separation of areas north of Aras from Iranian motherland,” Zarif said in a post on his Twitter account on Friday.

“Didn't he (President Erdogan) realize that he was undermining the sovereignty of the Republic of Azerbaijan?” the top Iranian diplomat asked.

“NO ONE can talk about OUR beloved Azerbaijan,” Foreign Minister Zarif stressed.

His comments came after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recited lines from a folk song that deplores partitioning of the lands inhabited by Azeri people by the Aras river.

The border river of Aras separates northwestern Iranian territories from the Republic of Azerbaijan.

During his Thursday visit to Baku to celebrate the Republic of Azerbaijan’s recent victory in the Nagorno-Karabakh war, Erdogan said Baku’s “struggle” against Yerevan was not over and vowed to carry on the contest “on many other fronts”.
