In a Tuesday meeting with the new Syrian ambassador to Tehran, Rouhani hailed the “strategic, friendly and brotherly” ties between Iran and Syria.
Highlighting Iran’s constant support for Syria in the battle against terrorism, the president gave an assurance that the Islamic Republic will stand by the Syrian government and nation until the ultimate victory over terrorism, return of displaced persons, and in the process of reconstruction.
Iran will also proceed with diplomatic activities, particularly within the framework of the Astana Peace Process, to contribute to the establishment of full stability and calm in Syria, Rouhani added.
The Syrian envoy, for his part, said Damascus seeks to maintain the valuable achievements of the past four decades in its strategic ties with Iran.
Shafiq Dayoub also praised Iran’s diplomatic activities for the establishment of peace and stability in Syria, saying his country will stand against any plot targeting regional security.
Last week, Defense Minister of Iran Brigadier General Amir Hatami underlined the country’s determination to keep working with Syria in the process of reconstruction.
