Iraq Parliament Marks 1st Martyrdom Anniversary of Gen. Soleimani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iraqi Parliament commemorated the first martyrdom anniversary of Iran’s top anti-terror commander, Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in a US drone strike in January.

Politics

General Soleimani was the former commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC). He was assassinated by a US strike on January 3, when he was on an official visit to the Iraqi capital Baghdad. Hitting his convoy, the barbaric assault also led to the martyrdom of many others, including Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy commander of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) or Hashd al-Sha’abi anti-terror force.

Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Halbousi and Faleh al-Fayyad, the PMU head and Iraq's national security Adviser, gave speeches at the ceremonyو during which they praised the role of the two commanders in eradicating the Daesh terror group from the Arab country, Iraqi media reported.

A photo exhibition of the two anti-terror heroes was held as part of the commemoration ceremony.
