No Case of New COVID Strain in Iran: Health Minister

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Not a single case of the new variant of the coronavirus reported in the UK has been detected in Iran, Health Minister Saeed Namaki said.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Namaki said the Health Ministry has the list of the passengers who have entered Iran over the past three weeks, is screening them, and has not found any case of the new coronavirus variant reported in the UK.

While the British officials hardly publicized the new strain and reported it after a two-month delay, Iran immediately suspended the flights from and to the UK, he added.

Namaki noted that all passengers that have arrived in Iran from the UK with indirect flights have also been screened.

While the passengers coming from European countries must present a valid negative COVID‑19 test certificate, they undergo a test upon arrival in Iran as well, the minister said.

Cases of the new strain of coronavirus have been detected in the UK, Denmark and Italy. Experts say the prevalence in Britain might be down to better detection.
