Envoy Hails General Soleimani as Firm Fortress of Resistance

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s ambassador to Baghdad paid tribute to late commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani as a strong fortress of resistance forces who helped fortify various fronts from Palestine to Yemen.

In comments on the first anniversary of martyrdom of General Soleimani in a US air attack, Iraj Masjedi said the popular commander had created links among all forces of the Islamic resistance.

General Soleimani turned into a great and strong fortress and shelter for the Islamic resistance forces interested in the Islamic Revolution, he added.

The envoy said the late commander developed great capabilities among the resistance forces and strengthened the Palestinian, Lebanese, Iraqi, Afghan and Yemeni currents with his unwavering efforts.

Lieutenant General Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Iraqi commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Units, were assassinated along with their companions in a US terror drone strike authorized by President Donald Trump near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.

The two commanders were highly popular because of the key role they played in eliminating the US-sponsored Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in the region, particularly in Iraq and Syria.
