TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President Hassan Rouhani said the world needs Iran’s oil and gas, adding that the country can turn into a regional hub for producing and exporting gas and electricity.

Speaking at a ceremony held Thursday via video conference to inaugurate a large gas refinery, the president described energy as one of the sources of national power.

He noted that Iran has reached the capacity to produce one billion cubic meters of gas daily.

Highlighting the country’s special place in terms of energy reserves, he said the world needs Iran’s oil and gas.

Rouhani said Iran has some of the largest gas reserves in the world estimated at 32 trillion cubic meters.

“We ought to be among the world’s top five exporters of gas. (We should) export gas to the countries south and east of our country, rather than only to the west. It is among important works and we must plan ahead for the future administrations.”

The Persian Gulf Bid Boland Gas Refinery was launched in the southwestern province of Khuzestan.

According to Rouhani, the project was completed with a total investment of $3.4 billion.
