Great Potential Available for Boosting Iran-India Military Ties: Minister


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Defense Minister of Iran Brigadier General Amir Hatami highlighted the ample opportunities for the expansion of military and defense cooperation with India.

In a meeting with Chief of Defense Staff of India Bipin Rawat, held in Bangalore on Wednesday, the Iranian defense minister pointed to the cultural and historical commonalities between Iran and India, saying the two nations share views on many regional and international issues.

Highlighting the capacities of the two countries considering their coastlines and access to the Indian Ocean, General Hatami said the potential plays a significant role in the enhancement of bilateral defense and military cooperation.

For his part, the Indian general hailed the Iranian military delegation’s visit to his country and its participation in the opening of the Aero India air show as a sign of the resolve to broaden the bilateral relations.

Heading a delegation, General Hatami has visited India to attend a meeting of the defense ministers of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

He participated in the opening of the biennial Aero India air show in Bangalore on Wednesday.
