Pakistan Frees 17 Iranian Sailors

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Seventeen Iranian sailors imprisoned in Karachi on a charge of illegal entry in Pakistani waters have been released and repatriated, Iran’s consulate general said.

The consulate general of Iran in Karachi said the 17 sailors have been released from the prison of Karachi and have returned home with an Iranian flight.

The Iranian sailors had been arrested some four months ago on a charge of illegal entry into Pakistan’s maritime territories.

The diplomatic efforts by the Iranian consulate general has resulted in the release of 101 Iranian sailors from Pakistani jails so far.

Iran and Pakistan signed an agreement on the extradition of criminals in May 2014.
