Iranian Minister, Tajik Leader Discuss Regional Security

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon weighed plans to broaden cooperation between the two nations and ensure regional security in the face of threats.

In a meeting in Dushanbe on Tuesday, the Iranian minister and the Tajik president talked about ways to address the intensification of geopolitical competitions and modern threats facing regional and global security.

They also discussed the coronavirus pandemic and the economic and financial crisis that is engulfing the world and posing a serious threat to the region at present and in the future.

The two officials also highlighted the more than 160 documents signed between the two countries to strengthen cooperation in various sectors, including a memorandum of understanding on principles to expand security relations, Press TV reported.

In another meeting on Tuesday, Tajikistan’s Minister of Internal Affairs Rakhimzoda Ramazon Hamro and Rahmani Fazli discussed ways to boost cooperation and exchange of information and experience in the fields of the fight against organized crimes, terrorism, extremism and smuggling if illicit drugs.

The Iranian interior minister arrived in Dushanbe on Monday for a series of political and economic talks.
