End to US Sanctions on Iran to Contribute to Regional Stability: Turkey’s Erdogan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan called on the United States to lift its sanctions on Iran and return to the 2015 nuclear deal.

Erdogan said on Thursday that a move by the US to lift the sanctions on Iran and return nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), would contribute to regional stability and economic prosperity.

Tehran has reiterated that Washington, which unilaterally withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018, must lift the sanctions to salvage the multilateral agreement.

Last month, Erdogan told Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a phone call that he saw a window of opportunity for Iran and the United States, adding he wanted US sanctions on Tehran to be lifted.
