Iran Eyes Closer Ties with Tunisia

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani expressed hope for the promotion of relations with Tunisia in all fields in light of the two nations’ commonalities.

In a Saturday message for his Tunisian counterpart Kais Saied, the Iranian president congratulated the North African nation on its Independence Day.

He also hoped that the growing relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Tunisia that are based on “the resolve and determination of the leaders and the interests, historical and cultural commonalities of the two nations” would prepare the ground for the expansion of bilateral relations in various fields.

Rouhani also wished the Tunisian people and president health and prosperity.

Tunisia celebrates its Independence Day on March 20 each year, marking the anniversary of independence from France on in 1956.

In June 1957, Tunisia became a republic with Habib Bourguiba as its first president.
