Speaking to reporters on Thursday after meeting with a number of senior clerics in the holy city of Qom, the Police chief hoped that there will be enthusiastic, healthy and secure elections in June.
“Our prediction is that we will have no problems in holding the polls and ensuring their security,” he added.
Brigadier General Ashtari also noted that the Police are responsible for safeguarding security before, during and after the elections.
Iran’s next presidential election will be held in June simultaneously with city council and midterm parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections.
Candidates hoping to run for president in the next election are to apply in early April for approval. The final list is to be announced by the Constitutional Council in early June.
Under Iran’s law, an incumbent president cannot run for a third term if he has already served for two consecutive terms in office.
