Turkish Forces, Militants Renew Artillery Attacks on Syria’s Tal Tamer, Hasaka: Report

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Turkish forces and members of terrorist organizations renewed their attacks on a number of villages in Syria’s Tal Tamer area in Hasaka northern countryside, a report said.

World

Local sources told SANA that the Turkish forces and groups of terrorist mercenaries on Friday evening launched artillery attacks on the locals’ houses in the two villages of al-Khashma and al-Dardara to the north of Tal Tamer town in Hasaka countryside.

The sources added that the attacks caused material damage to the public and private properties in addition to the service facilities.

Ankara-backed militants were deployed to northeastern Syria in October 2019 after Turkish military forces launched a long-threatened cross-border invasion in a declared attempt to push militants of the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) away from border areas.

Ankara views the US-backed YPG as a terrorist organization tied to the homegrown Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which has been seeking an autonomous Kurdish region in Turkey since 1984.

On October 22, 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed a memorandum of understanding that asserted YPG militants had to withdraw from the Turkish-controlled “safe zone” in northeastern Syria within 150 hours, after which Ankara and Moscow would run joint patrols around the area.
