Zarif Hails Uzbekistan for Opening Islamic Civilization Center

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif praised the government of Uzbekistan for establishing the Center for Islamic Civilization, which he said would be helpful in fighting against radicalism and violence.

The top Iranian diplomat paid a visit to the Center for Islamic Civilization in Tashkent on Monday.

Lauding the president of Uzbekistan for ordering the establishment of the center, Zarif said it would help the youth become acquainted with the history and pure values of Islam.

He also noted that the center boosts reliance on Islamic values, assists in the battle against extremism, and prevents violent interpretations of Islam.

The Center for Islamic Civilization in Tashkent includes a museum, exhibition halls, a large library and an archive, information technologies center, departments of manuscripts, calligraphy, storage of Islamic heritage, research and development, international cooperation and the study of foreign languages, as well as a laboratory for the restoration of manuscripts.

The top Iranian diplomat has visited Uzbekistan in a tour of Central Asia that will also take him to Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
