Coronavirus Cases in Iran Surpass 2 Million

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The total number of people infected with the coronavirus in Iran has exceeded 2 million, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said.

Providing the latest statistics on the coronavirus infection, Sima Sadat Lari said on Thursday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 2,006,900 after the detection of 22,586 new cases since yesterday.

The pandemic has claimed 185 lives over the past 24 hours, while the overall coronavirus death toll in Iran stands at 63,884, she added.

More than 1,684,570 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, Lari said.

Among those undergoing treatment at present, 4,221 are being kept in the intensive care units of medical centers because of critical health conditions, she said.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 133 million and the death toll has exceeded 2.9 million.
