New COVID Cases in Iran over 23,000


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s death toll from the coronavirus reached 274 on Monday and the new cases detected over the past 24 hours exceeded 23,300.

Providing the latest statistics on the coronavirus infection, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said on Monday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 2,093,400 after the detection of 23,311 new cases since yesterday.

Sima Sadat Lari said the pandemic has claimed 274 lives over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll in Iran to 64,764.

More than 1.72 million patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, she added.

Among those undergoing treatment at present, 4,440 are being kept in the Intensive Care Units of medical centers because of critical health conditions, she said.

The spokeswoman also noted that more than 13.77 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 136 million and the death toll has exceeded 2.95 million.
